Build a secure mobile career where your skills make a real impact
At Amey, we don’t just maintain buildings — we help keep the justice system running safely and effectively. We’re recruiting a Mobile Building Engineer to support the Ministry of Justice across Wales, with a base at HMP Cardiff. This is a hands-on, varied role where you’ll travel across a small number of sites, delivering essential maintenance that keeps environments safe, compliant and operational.
Working as part of a professional facilities team, you’ll carry out a mix of planned and reactive maintenance, with the autonomy to manage your own workload. You’ll benefit from a stable, long-term contract, strong support, and the tools to do the job properly — including a company van and fuel card — alongside real opportunities for progression.
What you’ll be doing
- Delivering planned and reactive building maintenance across multiple sites
- Acting as an Authorised Person (AP) in one or more disciplines (training provided)
- Ensuring full compliance with Amey, MOJ and HMPPS procedures
- Following strict security and tool control protocols
- Supporting escorting duties where required
- Working as part of an on-call and weekend rota
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for reliable, self-motivated engineers who take pride in their work and understand the importance of compliance within secure environments.
You’ll ideally have:
- A full UK driving licence (essential)
- A relevant NVQ or trade qualification within a building or maintenance discipline
- Experience working independently and using initiative
- Knowledge of building compliance and safety standards (training available)
- Experience in one or more of the following:
- Fire door maintenance
- Fire extinguishers & fire alarm core points
- Emergency lighting
- RCDs
- Water temperature testing
- IT literacy and basic health & safety knowledge
We welcome applications from a diverse range of candidates.
If you have most but not all these skills and experiences, we encourage you to apply, as we may be able to offer development or training to support you.
Prison Security Clearance will be required (Amey will support you through this process).
